Special Birthday Cakes!

Our darlings' , Pooja and Isha, birthday are in May. So we made two simple cakes for them.

Pooja turned 11 on the 13th May and requested for a simple ombre cake. We had a small party among the family and as usual, we forgot to take a photo of the cake until the very last minute.

Here is the cake. A lemon cake with lemon buttercream filling and frosting. If you look carefully, you can actually see a finger on the 'R'  as we snapped the shot at the last minute when a friend was inserting the candles.

Petal Ombre cake

Isha turned 9 on the 24th and we had a party for both the girls with their schoolmates. Both had different request.
Pooja wanted a chocolate fudge cake frosted with Meringue Buttercream with music and flowers. Isha wanted a cake with Frozen theme.
What can a mom do other than fulfil their wishes!

I am a newbie on fondant figurines but had fun creating Olaf, Elsa and Anna. The girls' were with me throughout the process and as "self proclaimed experts" in all thing FROZEN, they were giving me pointers and comments :) .

The end result was a 2 tier cake on a fondant piano base.

Pooja's cake was a Chocolate fudge cake with Swiss Meringue Buttercream with Pink Ombre rustic design decorated with flowers and musical notes.
Isha's was a vanilla cake with American Buttercream frosting with Blue Ombre design with snow flakes and the Frozen team.
The top of the cake was iced to look like a frozen lake.

The girls actually decorated the cake themselves. I iced the tiers and made the decorations, Pooja and Isha added the decorations on the cake, including the black piano notes!

Again, we forgot to take photos and this is the only one we had.

We also had a dessert buffet with blueberry.strawberry cheese tarts with music notes and snowflakes design, chocolate chip cookies, 2 different cupcakes with music notes and snow flakes, nutella macaroons, and some marshmallows. Unfortunately, no photos. We were too busy preparing and entertaining that we forgot!

On the whole, the girls had fun with their friend and were happy, and we had fun too.

Thanks to all of you who attended and made it memorable .. (including the fire incident).
